GEO: Georgian Railway 18

Tbilisi - Kutaisi (5h 30m)
ETD: 9.00am (GMT + 4)
ETA: 2.30pm (GMT + 4)

Happy Chinese New Year to those celebrating the festive season! Let's continue with our adventure in Georgia. As mentioned in my earlier post on Gori Downtown, my BFF and I took train no. 18 from Tbilisi Railway Station on two consecutive days, stopping at Gori and Kutaisi respectively.

After a hassle-free check-out from Hotel City Centre, we walked to the main railway station of the capital city of Georgia. We'd bought our tickets two days prior to our trip to Kutaisi, each costing GEL 8.00 (~S$4.25).

The staff at the counters speak decent English.

We proceeded to the platform at 8.40am. Our train was already there waiting for less than ten passengers that morning.

It was a photo-taking opportunity not to be missed while my BFF showed our tickets to the staff.
At first, we were assigned to seats in the first compartment with a family of three. However, one of the friendly and motherly staff quickly opened another compartment just for the two of us to relax throughout the journey. Thank you very much!

Off to Hogwarts... I mean Kutaisi! :P

I tried pressing the buttons, but none of them seemed to work.
Let's check out one of the washrooms, shall we?

You know you're in an old Soviet train when anything and everything is written in Russian.

Enjoying the cooling breeze from outside while taking this particular photo~ xD
The following are some of the views through the lightly tinted and not-so-clean window.

Ahhhh, the countryside~ <3

I can't remember the name of that station.

A short, yet almost pitch-black tunnel ahead!

It got a bit boring along the way, so I spent some time reading a few chapters of Mansfield Park by Jane Austen on my spare Samsung phone. That was followed by lunch.

The chocolate Swiss roll was enjoyable.
Below are some more photos that I took along the way.

Hello, wild animals! :D

Zestafoni is a small town with a large ferro-alloy plant that processes manganese ores.

Finally getting a sight of Kutaisi after more than 5 hours ride covering more than 200 km~
The train reached the destination on time.

In front of the station is a statue of David Agmashenebeli, a Georgian king of the Bagrationi dynasty.

There are two train stations in Kutaisi. We arrived at Kutaisi I, which is closer to the city centre.
